An unfortunate incident happened in tho rirst ties, in which Imperial beat .Random easily, but the judge exhibited the white flag m Luour of iiandom, but discovering his error he. then showed the red flag for Imperial. Champion Stakes.

Third Round. — Erebus and Random became unsighted, neither getting on properly before jmss wont through a fence ; Erebus led, and on this he secured tho judge's verdict; a very unsatisfactory trial, as neither dog used puss at all, the decision being given on a question of speed. Galteo More led Hands Across, and working well had a good score before the fawn got an opening for two; puss then doubled through into an adjoining paddock, and the dogs were lost sight of, and were some distance from the judge, who on returning showed the white flag for Hands Across; this decision did not meet with favour.

Final. — Erebus led Hands Across and worked cleverly until puss took into some tussock, whore "the fawn became busy; tho black, however, getting in again, joined in for the kill, which just secured him the red flag, the Champion Stakes thus resulting as follows —
