KAITANGATA.
August 1. — The monthly meeting of tlu Bciough Council, held on Wednesday evening last, was attended by his Worship the Mayor, and Crs Christie, Caird, Cornish, Welsh, and Mackenzie. Correspondence was read from N. M'Alhster, J. Shore, G. M'Vie and otherc, T. Barclay, and Mr Palmer. The only other business was the passing for payment of the wages sheet of £18.
The Weather.— During the past three day 3 we 1 1 Kaitangata have experienced a fall of snow <?x( elled only by that of 1878. At the time of writing both flats and xidges have a heavy ccating of Klondyke matting. The New and the Old.— "We in this coslopotis of Otago, while not unaccustomed to changes and surprises, felt " climaxed " yeplcrday when informed that the property of the Kaitangata Railway and Coal Company had definitely changed hands. We, however, fo.'l satisfied that notwithstanding the alteration in ownership the bright and shiny mineral of Kai. will remain a household call.
Changes ab.e Lightsome.— July of '98 has passed and gone, but not without many changes in our business fraternity, the following places having changed hands: — W. H. M'Kenzie and Co. to F. T. Pool ; W. Bethel to C. M'Veigh ; G. W. Hutchins to Mr Souness: and F. T Pool to H. Kirby.
