Mining at Tuapeka.
(From Our Wetherstones Correspondent.) August I.— There has not been much more than half-time done in some of the claims in this district timing the past two weeks. The Blue bour
has had a lot of broken time through the frost and snow. The frost was the worst. They had some men out for a week repairing the broken pairs of the water races. 1 hear that the outer pirls of the raros could not be got ta n r, Uing buried
under 7ft of snow. , The Gdlen llisc are shifting their plant again, after taking out another paddock. They have only been about 11 days over it. Thuy are working at present in what is known aa Poverty Gully. Tlioig i 3 a lot of solid ground ia it, which was remaided as too poor to work in the early days. It is paying the Goldn\ Rise very well, for ground niu'.t be very poor that won't pay for elevating or hydr ulicing. There are two bianch gullies, Bal-l-*rab and Jiroughlon's, leading into Poverty Gully. Buth branches ara payable, and the spur between the two ha* beenneaily all wqikedauay. The fpur U called Little Bailarat Hill. I hear that I lie Golden Rise has ordered a lot more llin &nd 7in pipes. The same party the other week had Mi Kobeits, consulting engineer, to examine their late puichsse, the Klondyke dredge, in order to tee what is required to put her in working oidcr. Mr Egberts reported that the engine was light enough, and could work up to 20 horse power, but they would rf quire a larger boiler, new buckets, and to have the puppet heads risen 4t higher. I understand the parly intend to have these recommendations cariicd out. It was statfd on Friday that the Local Indu.-try claim has been sold, and that one of the Golden Rise shareholders is the purchaser.
