Ifc is pleasing to be able to announce that no fewer th.in 156 tales were entered for the prize tale competition in connection vith the Otngo D.uly Times ami Witness ChrLsl.mas Annual 1898, the MS coming not ouly from tbe whole of New Zealand from Auckland to the Bluff, but also from New South \Y.i!e:s, Victoria, and South Australia. With such n large number to adjudicate upon, tbe judge's duties \ve;e somewhat onerous, but tbe prizes have been awarded as follow : — 1. " Playing Two Parts," by "Starlight." 2. The illustration of the tales has been placed in the hands of a competent artist, and it ia hoped that this unique feature of this year's Christmas Annual ■will meet with a favourable leceptiou al the Laada of the reading public.
