THE ZOLA TRIAL.
IMPKISONMiCNT AND FINE. PABis, Jaly 19. MM. Zola and Perreux, his publisher, bava been condemned to one year's imprisoßment and fines icilicted amounting to 30,C00f for libelling tbe First Council of War. Judgment was allowed to go by default, but an appeal will be made on the ground that they were not allowed to submit Dreyfus's evidence.
July 20. M. Zola has gone to Lucerne, in Switzarland.
July 21.
M. Zola fled to Lucerne in order to avoid service of the notice that judgment bad been passed in default, which enables M. Zola to bs re-tried in October, when he anticipates a more favourable hearing.
Leading newspapers recognise Zola's motive, but others allege that his flight is dne to cowardice.
