LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Otago Land Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by Mr J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner) md Messrs H. Clark, W, Dallas, J. Dune.m, and 11. H-Kirkpatrick.

An application by John M'Kinlay for rural land section 60, block I, Catlins district, on lease in perpetuity, was approved.

John Smith applied to be allowed to transfer a lease in perpetuity over section 48, block XI, Glenkeuich district, to G. T. Daw3on. — Approved.

John Milne applied to be allowed to exchange a perpetual lease for a lease in perpetuity over section 4, block XI, Greenvale district. — Approved.

George Abcrnethy applied to complete purchase of land held on deferred payment license, being section 81, block VIII, Glenomaru.— Approved.

Mrs E. Eason applied for time to pay rent due upon perpetual lease 868, section 54, Ulock IX, Glcnomaru district. — Time allowed.

Mrs J. Doyle asked that she be allowed time within which to pay refit due by her dn sections 13 and 14, Teaneraki district. — Tune allowed under the circumstances. James Gilbert applied for a license to occupy

part of sections 19 and 20, block XIII, Sutton district. — Yearly license granted at a rental of £3, with the usual Jicen&e fee.

John Thompson, on behalf of Robert Cowie, applied for a grazing license over section -JO, block XIII, Tuapeka East district — Declined, section being within the Tuapeka Commonage.

Smipkins applied for tune to pay rent due upon section 10, block VII, Swmbum distuct. — If one year's rent is paid at once the board will allow three months m which to pay the balance of arrears. Mrs E. Emerson applied for exemption from residence upon section 19, block VIII, Maruwenua district (Tokarahi estate), for h. few montlu. — Three months allowed m which to effec t residence.

Lawrence Spedden applied for a license to occupy the foiest reserve fronting small grazing run 225Y, Gimmerburn district. — Yearly license granted at 4d per acre, with the usual license fee.

H. L. Johnson applied for a license to occupy the bush reserve adioining section 16, block XV, Maungatua- district.— Yearly license granted at ]0d per annum, wilh the usual license fee. All righto for cutting and the lemoval of timber reserved.

John Thompson applied, on bclinU of Thomas Ryan, for a license to occupy thu area in block X, town of Havelock, at present held under license by John Callanan — To be considered on the expiry of Mr Callanan's license.

Stout, Mondy, and Sim applied, on behalf of David Robertson, to purchase an area of about 14 acres of the reclaimed portion of Blueskin Bay, fronting section 3 of 27, block 11. North Harbour and Blueakin district. — Referred to the ranger for report. J. M'Alpine, S. Satvnders, W. Edinond, John North, and James Cusack applied for a license to occupy the mining reserve, section 52, block I, Rock and Pillar district, for grazing purposes — Yearly license granted to the applicants at an annual renta) of 10s, with license fee £1 Is.

Ranger Hughan forwarded a valuation of the improvements upon section 8, block XI"V, Pomahaka Downs estate, lately held by G. W. Maxwell. — Section to be reopened as formerly, with valuation for improvements of £195 10s, subject to the Governor's approval.

Applications to surrender were dealt with as follows. — Thomas Wilson, section 15, block IV, Leaning Rock district — Accepted, section lecemmended for notification at 12s 6d per acre, with valuation for improvements of £'59 17s. M Nei land's lease over section 17, Teaneraki Settlement — License forfeited foi non-payment of rent , ranger to value the improvements.

The Secretary of the Education Board wrote with reference to the area in block I, Blackstone district, over which a license has been granted. — Resolved that, the license granted on Juno 8 last to John Stavely over the area fronting sections 2.'3, 21, and 27, block I, Blackstone district, shall cease and be determined from this date, such area being required for a public purpose.

Ranger Mackenzie wrote stating that "Win. Smith, to whom a license to cut firewood at West Hawea was granted, desired the license made- out in the name of Charles Mason, and that it include the cutting of posts. — License for six months to issue in the name of Charle3 Mason for cutting firewood and posts at a rental of £3, 15s.
