Notes from Lyell. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Lyeli., June 3.

Alpine.— The mine manager reports :--"The No. 10 main south level has bsesi driven a further distance of 10ft, making the total length 430 ft. The Btone in the foot-wall remains as last reported, while a n&w make of stone is coming in on the hanging-wall side and in the bottom of the level. Tbe new make ha?, however, only just been touched, and at present I am unable to say what it will develop into. There 13 no change in the quality of the ate em the stopes. The reef varied from 2ft to 14ft, and the improvement in the cjuality mentioned in last report has ben maintained during the past week.' The l?sft level has been cleaned out and the road laid to the main shaft. The driving of fchb level south was started on Wednesday, since when a distance of 6ft has been driven, making the total length of the level 144ffc. The reef i» 6ft in width, and some of tho stone shows fair gold. The- crosscut to the west at No. 4 level has beea extended a further distance of 18ft, makius the total length of crosscut 78ffc. For the. lasf. 12fi of diiving the country hax been hard, but a change for the better set oii to-day. During the week 200 tons of stone have been sent to the battery.
