DIVIDEND-PAYING MINES
Messrs Harcourt. and Co., of WelJfpgton., have compiled a list of dividends paid by mines owned by public companies in New Zealand during 1596 and 1897- From this it appears that .-£110,94! 10s 2d waa paid in 1896. while last year showed an Jr.crfwse of £13.221 Us, the total being £124 162 3s 2<L Only five mines i» Auckland paid dividends last,ye?r. but these gave £89,800 to fortunate shareholder?, thp. Waihi taking pride of place with £64,000, or slightly more than one-half the total paid in dividends by publii-. mining companies for the wfcple colony. In Nelson and Wesfcla'nd the only mines which paid dividends last year were the "Keep-it-I)ark and the Mont dOr, the total being £3400 sgainst £8650 in 1896. In Otago 15 miDes pATd dividends last year, tha total reaching £3(;,B<i-?, The Moraing Star miae, Preservation Inlet, cornea first with £8228 115. followed by tb* Biuo Spur Consolidated with £tH77 ; nexi comet the Clyde dredge with £5800, while the Golden Treasure dredge paid £3300, Golden Gate dredgu £1687. Jutland Fiat £1506, Otago dredge £1300, Enterprise dredge £850. Ett.rick dredge £787. Roxburgh Amalgamated, £728, Uyner Ws-ipori dredge £600, Moonlight Sluicing Company £400^ Golden Bun dredge £300, Pbceniy Water B»c* £200.
