A REMINISCENCE OF THE WAIRARAPA WRECK. Wellington, May 31. A singular ease was heard in Chambers today before the Chief Justice. When the Wairarapa was wrecked on the Great Barrier Island iv October, 1894-, there were on board two New Zealand miners named George Bird (of Petone) and Angus Manderson, who were returning from Coolgardie. Each was suppoied to have left Sydney with money in his possession. Both were drowned, and subsequently their J bodies washed ashore, aud buried in the same j grave. Among the effect* taken off the bodies were two belts, in one of which was £133 in gold. Somehow the effects got mixed up, and no one was afterwards able to aay from which body the belt containing the gold was taken.
