There are now only 27 wooden ships In the British navy. At a meeting of the City Wellington Council the drainage engineer submitted a report stating that the icheme would be completed by July, and that his original estimate of £173,000 would nob be exceeded. He said that he had penalised Messrs M 'Grata and Co., the con« tractors for the outfall portion of the works, in £1400 odd for delay. On the other hand, Messrs M'Grath and Co. MO claiming £2000 odd for extras.
