Syerla and Tramp were smartest on their legs, and as they rattled past the stand Syerla was leading, with Blanche Florence on his girths, with Mackay and Charge a length away, closely succeeded by Flodden, Gleadennon, and Ace of Diamonds, with Insulator bringing xip the rear. As they swung out of the straight Syerla gave plaoe to Blanche Florence, who showed the way past Oxenham's a length from Syerla, after whom on close terms came Flodden and True Blue, pursued" by Maclcay, Glendennon, and Duddingston, while Insulator still acted as whipper-in. Passing the mile post Flodden ran up to the girths of Blanche Florence ; Ace of Diamonds was half a length off, and a length in front of Glendennon, Mackay, Syerla, and' Duddingston, while Insulator was still in the rear. They swept paEt the seven furlonga post without change, but at the end of the next furlong Ace of Diamonds ranged up alongside of Blanche Florence, and two lengths off carae.True Blue, with Glendennon on his girths, and followed by Syerla aud Duddingston, whiie Charge had replaced Insulator in the rear. True Blue got his head in front of Blanche Florence and Ace of Diamonds as they cast the next furlong behind, with Tramp in close attendance, and after passing.the halfmile post, Ace of Diamonds and True Blue were disputing the lead a length in front of Glendennon and Duddingston, while Tramp was showing prominently on the outside, and Syerla on the rails was making up lo3t ground. Ace of Diamonds and True Blue turned into the straight just in advance of Duddingston, Glendennon, and Brazen Lad, while War God was at the head of the others. True Blue and Ace of diamonds retired from the fray before the distance was reached, leaving Duddingston in the lead, with Brazen 1 .Lad on his quarters, and Syerla and War God next. Brazen Lad cut down Duddingston after passing the half distance, and won a good race by a neck from the son of Lochiel, who beat Syerla by a head for second-place.
