According to the annual report 'of the fire brigade £5?, 722 worth of property was destroyed in \7ellington by fire during the year, which is £43,295 more than in' the previous year. Seventeen members of the brigade use bioycles of their own, and the captain thinks an allow ance of 2s per visit ought to be made to them.
The Bruce Herald says tbat considerable alterations and improvements will shortly be made to the New Zealand Potteries. It is intended to erecb new buildings, comprising engine house, slip house, &c. ; several kilns will alßo be built, and the present ovens will be thoroughly" renovated. This portion of the work will be under the supervision of Mr Clymer, who will arrive from Home tbis month, and who, it will be remembered, had charge of the same class of work when the pottery was built years ago, A considerable, amount of machinery, including engine, presses," &o, has been shipped from Home, and will • arrive by the first direct boat. ■'• Mesjsrs W. O. Gibbons and Co., the wellknown nurserymen and florists of Wellington, insert a new advertisement in this issue. The firm's extensive nurseries at the Hutt contain a really splendid variety of every description of fruit trees, plants and shrubs, &c, and intending purchasers can wifch confidence rely on being well served with respect to any orders placed trith this boiue.
