Otago Horticultural Society extended to Otago Agricultural Association. 13th.— Public meeting (Capt. Cargill presiding) almost unanimously requested Mr. Valpy not to accept nomination by the Governor to Legislative Council, because they objected to the nominee principle. JUNE. 7th.— Lengthy correspondence between Mr. Valpy and Capt. Cargill on the sfime subject, in which Mr. Valpy maintains his right to accept nomination. Supreme Court opened June 3rd. Probate granted on motion of Air. J. H. Harris in ->-c Wm. Reid and H. B. Graham. Magistrates and officers sworn in, and Court adjourned to September 3rd. Dinner given by the Alrgistratcs to Mr. Justice Stephen. Her Majesty's health coldly drunk, and toast of Governor omitted. JULY. sth.— Prospectus of Dunedin A" echanics Institution.
