THE GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.
Messrs Samuel Orr and Co., Stafford street, report for the week ending Febiuary 23 as follows :— Weather in south taken up again, though damage has been done to the ryegrass and any crop that was near cutting. Oats.— Outsidt markets are not so firm as they ■were, or on » level with ours ; sti'l good heavy bright feed commands 2s Id, milling 2s 2d, ordinary feed, lslOd to 2s. Wheat. — s'alcs of the new crop from the noith are daily taking place, but at a reduction on recent rates ruling there and here. We ■quote I'rime velvet up to 4s 5d ; Tuscan, 4? 5d ; red sorts. 4a 4d ; whole fowl feed, 3s 6i to 3s 8d ; broken, 3s to 3s 4d (bags in). j Barley.— Maltsters and brewers are in the ! market for prime quality, and during the week ' 50,000 bushels have changed b nids at a good price ' to grower?. We as>k those who ba\e any to tend ■us tbeir samples, aa we have a good outlet for this ■cereal and can promise them full value?. Chaff — Prime oaten sheaf up to £4. Potatoes — Hill-grown kidneys up to £i. Ryegrass. — With the weather taken up we look for laijse quantities being on the market soon. We sold during the week farmeib' dressed lots as they came from the mill at 2s 8d to 3rf (sacks extra, on trucks at wayside stations in the ioutb).
