OTAKIA DRAINAGE BOARD.
A meeting of the Otakia Drainage Board was held on Monday, and attended by Messrs Wilson (rhah'maa), Carruthers, Shennan, Snunness, and Fleming Permission from the Taieri County Council for the reconstruction of C drain was j received, and the council agreed to pay half the I coat of the work for 40 chains, the cost not to exceed 4s per chain, and to spread the material taken out of the ditch on to the road wLere the road is altogether in the drainage district ; the work to be carried out to the road insp'ictor's approval. It was agreed that fresh tenders be called for the work, a separate price to be given for tha spreading of the material on the road, and that the county inspector, Mr White, be asked to prepare specifications for the spreading of the material, seeing that the work had to be done to his satisfaction. It was resolved that on any rates remaining unpaid after the 2Sth February 10 per cent be charged in terms of the act, aud that immediate steps be taken for their recovery. The bank book showed that the general account was overdrawn to the amount of £14 16^ 2d. Messrs John Reid and Sons forwarded a certificate of completion for contracts No. 1 and No. 2, and the contractors account for £51 9s 9d was passed for payment. Sundry accounts to the amount of £15 10-3 Id were also passed for payment. The board agreed to hold a special meeting on the 2(ith February to receive tenders. "Mdlle. Mark Twain" is what the Paris Figaro calls the daughter of Mr Samuel L. Clemens, ALWAYS KEEP the best till the last. After trying all other brands ot Tobacco, smoke DERBY.
