THOMAS BRACKEN—OBIIT FEB. 16, 1898. Where, 'neath the woodland arches, The bellbird'a music floats A thrill of tender sorrow Is trembli»g through her,notes, The toi'a plumes are drooping, And the pine hath bowed her head, For the wind hath whispered to them That the gentle bard ia dead. And thousand murm'ring rivers Sing low a soft, sad dirge, And the voice of Ocean answers In the wailing of the surge ; For tho Land of Streams and Forests, Whose beauties oft he sung, Mourns for the heart that loved her t Mourns for the harp unstrung. Yet though no more its music Shall wake beneath his skill, The song 3he sung so sweetly Are our possession still; No more the gentle singer To earth's dull plane belongs, But in a happier regiou Shall sing diviner songs. Farewell! O, voice departed That sang Zealandia'a praise— O t singer, gentle-hearted, Of sweet and tuneful lays. The coal export from Greymoath last week was 810 tons 6owt by the Blackball Company and 2155 tons by the Brunnet Company.
