SOUTH BRITISH INSURANCE COMPANY.

The balance sheet of the South British lasu'rance Company, which has jmt been issued, shows a profit for the year ended 31st August of £28,140 12s 3d, which, added to the balance brought forward from last year, makes the amount at the credit of profit and loss £32,050 9s Bd. Out of this an interim dividend was paid in April last of £4847 2s> and the following amounts have been written off — viz. : — Sinking fund, Auckland leasehold, £75 ; office furniture, £364 Is 9d ; loss on securities realised, £89 159 2d ; and £10,000 has been added to the reserve fund, leaving a balance of £16,674 10i 9d, out of "which the directors now recommend the payment of a dividend for the last half year at the rate of 2s per share, making the total distribution for the year 3a 6d per share, which will absorb £6462 16s and leave £10,211 14s 9d to be carried forward to next year's account.
