FORTROSE.
June 2. — We are having rough weather for stock here. The Waikawa River is over its banks ,by flood to-day. It is not extra high. During ' harvest it flooded higher than ever I saw it. Some of the crops got carried away and destroyed. Some lost stock by it, one lossing about 50 sheep." One farmer got up at 1 o'clock in the morning aud moved all his stock on to high land, and only I completed it at 5 o'clock. When daylight came the fiat was all under water— it being over the tops of fences in low parts.
