A CLOSER UNION. Ottawa, June 4. In the Dominion Senate a suggestion has been put forward that the Government should make overtures to the other British colonies, with the object o£ drawing closer the tieß with England. Capetown, Juna 3. In the Legislative Assembly Mr Roseinnes moved that Sir G. Sprigg, Premier, be requested to arrange with the Imperial authorities the basis of a" contribution by Oape Colony to the British navy. The motion was supported by the Government, Mr Schreiner, and Mr O. Rhodes. June 4, In the Legislative Assembly, Mr Boseinnes's motion in favour of arranging with the Imperial authorities the basis of Cape Colony's contribution to the navy was carried with only one dissentient. The Premier, Sir G. Sprigg, stated that he hoped to arrange for a substantial grant. London, June 4. The London newspapers express great appreciation of the action of Cape Colony in agreeing to vote a subsidy towards the British Navy. The Times congratulates the Oape on following the excellent initiative set by Australia.
