Notes on Rural Topics. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— l have saen several lemarks from time to time about the small cornpeutioa there is for the be-.t.-managed farms. The l.xtesb is ia your issue of the 13th iust. The writer give" many reasons — such a* ouly one could win in each class at the time, excessive modesty, etc., etc. I may state I competed for two years, and would have been doing so still but for the bad judgment displayed. I will give an instance of it. In 1895, for grain aud root crops the executors of the late W. Scoular were awarded 8 points, John Reid and Bona 9 point*, James Anderson 9 points. In 1890, executors ot the late W. Scoular 10 points, John Iteid and Sons 8 point*. James Anderson 7 points. On such awards being given I sent a written protest to the A. and P. Society, stating I could prove from the threshing mill that for every acre sown down in grain I threshed out threfc bushels for every two bushels Reid did ; but the fociety did nothing in the matter. Seeing that aucb imperfect judgment is given, how can farmeis be expected to compete?— l am, etc., James Andebsojt. Wright's Bush, Edington Mains, May 29.
