The Starting at Beaumont Races. TO THE EDITOR.
g IK) — Iq reading a letter in your last issue, written by the owner of Red Lancer, I notjee the writer attempts to cast a reflection on the starter at the late Beaumont meeting, and which I consider totally uncalled for. I may state that I was requested by a certain horseowner to go to the starting post for the Flying Handicap, as it wa* rumoured that a certain jockey was going to indulge in a bit of amarfc practice, and I agreed to the owner's request, and watched the start very particularly. There were six horsis in the race, and with the exception of a slight advaatage gained by Fairy and Tommy Atkins, the horse* were in an eyeD line when the flag fell. Jane Byre did not get any benefit at the start, and did nob lead the field until they had gone half the distance. Red Lancer's bead was not turned the wrong way when the flag fell, and though he did not get away with the others, it was no fault of the starter. — I am, &c.. Steward of Beatjmont Jockey Club. Rae's Junction, May 7.
