THE BAT AND THE OWL: A DUET.
Bat: O'er the wood your voice I heard — "Whither flying, lonely bird ? Owl: Where the silly mice at play Charm the night and care away. There to feast on one or two Kre the cock crow : whence come you ? Bat: From a dark and gruesome cave Where a murderer &c lop'd a grave. There, secure from prying eye, Death and I dwell cosily. Owl: lam from the haunte'i tower, Where I hear the midnight hour Tolling like a voice of doom, Calling all men to the tomb. Both : Night we love and day we hata — Fly ! my ghovtly friend, 'tis late ; Soon, too soon, the morning breaks, We must sleep when man tiwakes. May 1897 —H. J. B. —
