The Windsor Magazine lor April contains many attractive features. Hall Caine's novel, " The Christian," fully maintains its engrossing interest, the evolution of the two striking individualities who really comprise the story, John Storm and Glory Quayla, being watched from month to mouth with lively curiosity. " John Bull's Balance Sheet " is a most interesting sketch of "how the money conies and goes,'' by J. Holt Schooling, illustrated with diagrams. A clock face shows that the expenditure out of the exchequer of the United Kingdom is £11,130 for every hour of the day, while squares of almost exactly the same size indicate the revenue as 93 - 8 millions and the expenditure 92 - 6 millions, the surplus of l'Z millions being shown by an accompanying square of minute proportions. A " grandfather* clock " shows the income as £3 4-s 6d for each swing of the pendulum, and a number of other diagrams are all more or less to tibe point. " Drivers I Have Met," profurely illustrated ; " Life in a Coal Mine," equally so ; "Our Hoaes," with six half-page views of interiors ; and a number of short tales, sketches, illustrated poems, ice , complete the number. The frontispiece is a half-tone plate of ,"The Madonna and Child in Glory," bj' Correggio, the accompanying article being by Timothy Cole. The " Otago University Review " for May states that the "capping" ceremony will be held this year immediately before the winter vacation. " Olim Civis " contributes some instructive hints to intending "medicals" who contemplate finishing at the Scotch universities, and says in. conclusion . " The Senatus Acacemicu3 of Edinburgh, through representation's made fc'o them by Dr Chilton and other*, agreed to accept the New Zealand graduation pass in uny subjects, as exemption from examination in these subjects in the first professional* a concession which has been taken advantage of by New^ Zealand' graduates in Edinburgh*-"
