OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY.

A special meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held at the society's office on Tuesday night, Mr James Smith (president) in the chair. A considerable amount of correspondence was received in connection with the forthcoming winter nhow and dealt with in committee. The Railway Traffic Manager wrote- notifying that excursion fares would be issued from Christchurch to Kingston and intermediate stations, including all branches, from 19 th to 25th June, and also from Oamaru and Clinton, including branches, by the morning train on Jnne 26, all tickets to be available for return up to 3rd July. Mr G. M. Marshall wrote offering a special prize (value £2 2s, as a second prize) to the farmer gaining the second highest number of points in exhibits of farm and dairy produce. — The secretary was instructed to acknowledge the letter and thank Mr Marshall for his generosity. It was decided that the Union Steam Ship Company be asked to issue special steamer fares in connection with the opening of the Agricultural Buildings. Over 70 applications were received for space for exhibition, and after the committee had gone carefully over the several applications and had rejected those that did not pertain to agricultural industries, they found it necessary to considerably reduce the space applied for by several of the applicants, so that ample space might be reserved for holding the various exhibits entered for competition and also providing passage ways. The whole of the judges with the exception of two sections have accepted, and it is expected that satisfactory replies will be received in the course of a few days from the gentlemen nominated. It was decided to arrange that the building should remain open late on Wednesday evening preceding the show to enable exhibitors to put the exhibits in order, and that the judgiDg should start early on Thursday morning, and that no one excepting the class stewards should be admitted while the judging is going on. The chow will be publicly opened at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday, 24th June. Archbishop Redwood is to be entertained at Wellington on his return.
