HYDE.
May 3. — We have been enjoying beautiful weather for 'some time, and there is no sign of Irost yet, though probably before the winter is over we shall have our share. The outlook for winter feed is none too bright, and our hope is that we may have a mild winter.
Harvest. — Mr Gtddes, of Shag Valley, has jußt completed ihe threshing, having brought his traction engine and mill to the district, and all bands vote it to be a great improvement on the old style of shiftiDg about with horses. There has not been much crop to thresh, but there are a Tew fine samples of wheat to be seen. Oats are not to be had in the district, and have to be brought eitherfrom Dunedin by rail or carted from Moon light. Chaff is also very Fcarce.
Otago Central.— The sleepers and rails are now laid to Kokonga, and ballasting has commenced. The department intend to be able to carry goods to Kokocga in July, and passengers by October, find as the earthwork is well ahead to Eweburn, it should not be long before the whistle is heard in Maniototo.
