DEATH OF SIR WILLIAM ROBINSON.

London. May 8

The death is announced of Sir William Robinson, formerly Governor of West Austria, aged 62. The cause of death was an sff action of the throat.

Sir William Cleaver Francis Robinson, G.C.M.G., F.R G.S., was the third sod of the late Admiral Hercules Robinson, of Rosmead, Westmeath, Ireland, and brother to Lard Ro3tnead (better kuowu 1 as Sic Hercules Rob nsou). Born in 1834-, he was private secretary to his brother in Sfc. Kitts and Hongkong ; administered the Government of Dominic* ; was Governor of the Falkland Islands and Prince Edward Island, and was then appointed to Western Australia. He was then appointed Governor of the Straits Settlements, and was apaointed to invest the KiDg of Siam with tbe G C.M.G., on which occasion the Kmg decorated him with' the Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown of Siam. He has since been twice rcappomted Governor of Western Australia, and was also Governor of South Australia. He was also Acting-Governor of Victoria during Sir H. Loch's absence. He rendered special service to Western Australia in London in getting the Con*ti ( ution Bill passed. He was married in 1862 to the daughter of Dr Townsend, Bishop of Meatn. Sir "W. Robinson was a musician of considerable eminence, and composed several Eongs, the best known of which is " Remember me no more." He also composed the music of a light opera.
