BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION TRUSTEES.

The regular metting of the Benevolent Institution Trustees held on the 23th ult , was attended by Messrs Solomon (chairman), Wilson, WatsOD, Gjurley, All in, Swan, and Green. Accounts amounting to £136 19s 5J were passed fur payment. The cost of tbe institution for tbe month of Marcb was. reported to bs £-2o*> is 4d,the number of the inmates 265, and the co3t per head per week 4s 3id. The Chairman said there were at present 215 men in the institution. thi3 beiug the largest number ever known, and he did not thiuk there was one they could turn out. In cons quence of this more beds and bedding wtre required.— lt was decided to vuichase what was necessary. The Chairman said there were eight men in the Institution who were Roman Catholics,_BUti they wanted permission to go out every night for a fortnight to attend a mission to be held at South rHinedin They wanted to be there from 7 till 10 o'clock. He bad not felt justified in settling the matter himself. Ihe difficulty was that as a general thing all the men of tbe institution were in bed by 9 o'clock or a little before. Mr Gourley said these were s-pecial missions. They were held once a year, and he did not think the trusti-es would be justified in withholding permission to attem them The Chairman thought tbe men should be allowed to go on the distinct understanding that if they did not return at the proper time, perfectly sober, they wou'd not be allowed to go aguiu. This suggestion was fallen in with. The Se .retnry of the Ghaiitable Aid Board wrote asking the trustees to furni-h the board with an estimate similar to tli.it lequiredby Mr Carew, and supplied to him and the other commissioners in the late appeal case brtwecn tbe trustees and the board, 'llie writer asked for the information as soon as convenient, so tbat the estimates might be pas-.ed fur the curient year. The Chairman said there was no difficulty about the matter. If the trustees left it to himself and the sccretaxy ihc information would be supplied. The board should have the fullest infoiniation possible,

The matter was left to the chairman and secretary. Tho secretary was instructed to write and thank the U.S.S. Company for the use of their steamer for the instiUitiqn's picnic. Fif ty-three relief cases were dealt with.
