AUCKLAND TOPICS.
Br Taihoa;
Good entries have been received for our big Winter meeting. There are 29 entered for the Great Northern Huidles, and amongst them are such good performers as Donald M'Kinnon,, Dummy, St. Simon, Levanter, and Coala, whilst the new aspirants for jumping honours include Yattenfeldt, Golden Plover, Lady Agoes, Anniversary, and Rex. There are 28 in the big Steeplechase, including such well-performed animals as Mutiny, Donald M'Kinnou, Tiritea, Levanter, and St. Simon, so Mr Evett has some good stuff to work on in framing the handicap. The Otahuhu Racing Club holds a " no-totali-sator" meeting next Saturday. I fancy the following in their engagements :— Otahuhu Cup, Flying Fish ; Flying Stakes, Purvoke ; Maiden Hurdles, Warrigal ; Selling Race, Cleopatra ; Pony Cup, Topsail. The new owner of Ihe jumping horse Tim has placed him in Frank M'Mnnimin's stable. Tim's owner is a prominent sharebroker. W. O. Baoth now owns the two-year-old colt Royal Conqueror. This youngster is three parts brother to Lottie, being sired by Flintlock from Ladybird. Five trotting horses were taken to Christchurcb. to-day by M. Edwards— viz., Albert Victor, Claset, Alice. Lusitania, and Dictator. Folly's eseay in the A.R.C. Easter Handicap turns out to have been her last race. She is to be mated with St. Leger. Folly, who was got by Captivator from Jilt, scored some good wins in her turf career, but she was never better than an indifferent second ratsr. Amongst her victories are numbered the A.R.C. Easter and City Handicaps and Takapuna Cup. Although two of Frank M'Manimin's charges (St. Clements and Volcano) were put under the .auctioneer's hammer last week the trainer did not part with them, St. Clements beiDg bought; in for him at 75gs and Volcano at 40gs. I don't suppose Sfc. Clements will ever stand anothtr preparation, but surely such a splendidly-performed son of St. Leger will be sought after for stud purpotes. Weights for the Takapuna meeting will not be declared until the ldh inst, in order that the handicapper may have the runuing at next Saturday's Otahuhu meeting to guide him. A lot of good it will be, for it's hardly likely that a horse with serious intentions re Takapuna will disclose true form next Saturday. When M'Leod and Cleland's colfc Sabretache Teturng to Auckland he will be trained by J. C. Booth. That Trainer is to be commended for the improvement he has effected in at least two Jiorses, Rex and Mozol.
