UPPER OWAKA.

May 3.— The extraordinarily wet weather we had in March has been followed by a spell just as fine. Indesd, considering the season of the year, it is a great deal better than could be expected. Ihe first day of winter has arrived, and our roads are as good as they were in the summer — indeed better, for there is now no dust lying on them. ' The Harvest.— The threshing mill has come and gone. The same mill that went the rounds of the district last year was employed by the settlers again, and Mr R. Chalmers is to be congratulated on the big season he has had as well as on the satisfactory manner in which the mill did its work. A ' number of the settlers are busy just now carting j out their grain. ' ! School Election.— On Monday evening last the [ Annual meeting of householders was held, in the school for the purpose of electing a new school 1 committee. There was a very small attendance, ■ for what reason it is very difficult to say. The secretary and treasurer's report showed that the usual routine work had been done, and that a balance stood to the committee's credit at the bank. The election resulted in Messrs G. Gillespie, G. Souness, J. Oalsy, A. Shields, and A. Chalmers being returned for the ensuirig year.
