May 3.— Mining still employs a Rood many hands. The Fillyburn dredge is hard at work, and affords a good deal of employment; and a number of hands are also employed at the Mount Highlay battery. This company have gone to work from the mine to the battery, and having got things into going order and a large quantity of stone to grass, they should be able to turn out some nice cakes when the water becomes more plentiful. Milne and party have got the Taieri River turned through the tunnel which they lately finished.
