MIMING AT TUAPEKA. (From Our Lawrence Correspondent.)

May 3. — The Consolidated Gold-mining Company's mine at Blue Spur wraa shut down on Thursday last for want of water.

The Local Industry Company has also run short of water, and unless lain falls shortly the claim will be shut down for about two weeks.

Kitto and party and Mills and party are working steadily, and are not experiencing any of the hardships causerl by the want of water. The Tuapeka Flat Dredging Company are getting over a large amount of ground, and though the returns are not made public, I have good authority for saying that they are doing as well as can be expected for a new company. Mr Murray, of Miller's Flat, is shifting a dredge from that place to a piece of grouud adjoining the Tuapeka Fiat Dredging Company's special claim. Already he has the boiler nn the ground, .and hopes to have in the course of a month or so the ground opened up and the dredge fairly started.

A rumour is current here that a party of prospecto-s have discovered, in the vicinity of the antimony mine, a remarkably rich quartz reef Pieces of quartz detached from the main reef contamed pieces of gold weighing several pennyweights, aud over sdwt of gold was obtained from one washing of a dish. The reef, as far as can atprepent be seen, is about 2ft wide, and can be traced for a distance of two miles
