LATE ANGLING. ON THE ORETI AT CENTRE BUSH.
April 24.— The fishing has closed for another season on the Oreti. At Centre Bush some of the local anglers tried the Oreti on the last day of the season, but I have not heard of any big baskets except Mr W. S. M 'Donald, who landed 31 fish, 301b (fly), and Mr N. R. Mackay, 32 fish, 281b (fly). The fishing in the earlier part of the season was very good, some of the anglers getting good baskets— namely : Messrs Cook, 43 fiah (fiy) ; W. S. M 'Donald, 45 fish (fly) ; T. Barlow, 35 fish (fly) ; H. Hammond, 32 fish (worm) ; A. Lucas, 62 fi3h (fly) ; Dellaghar, 51 fish (worm). Mr N. R. Mackay has landed 1138 fish this season, all with bare fly. Some of his takes arc worth recording : 107 fish, 631b (bare fly) ; 82 fish, 521b (bare fly) ; 81 fish, 581b (bare fly) ; 65 fish, 601b— one 61b. one slb, one 4£lb— (bare fly) ; 41 fish, 291b (bare fly) ; 46 fish, 351b (bare fly) ; 49 fish. 351b (bare fly) ; 40 ' fish, 351b (bare fly); 38 fish, 301b (bate fly). He averaged 17 fish for every day he went out.
The Bruce Herald reports that at a meeting of tbe Milton Applicants for shares in the New Zealand Potteries Company the shareholders decided it whs inadvisable to go on with the matter any further. The fact was that Mr Storie wanted the southern shareholders to go into the Pottery Company on quite a different basis from that originally proposed. When ho was here some months ago he declared that if 300 shares were subscribed in the south, the baUnce of 600 wonld be guaranteed up north. At the meeting on Saturday evening laßt he had quite a different story to tell. He said that the directors had received an offer of £3000 in cash for the mineral leases on Waiheke and 30,000 fully paid-up shares in a mining company to be floated in London. In consequence of this rosy state of affairs the Auckland directors would only allot; 35 shares in Dunedin, 10 in Christchurch, 65 in Auckland, and 100 in Bruce ;— total, 210 shares.
