LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Lind Board, held on Wednesday, was attended, by the chief commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), Messrs H. Olark, W. Dalbs, J. Duncan, and A. M'Kerrow.

Kurow.— D. Sutherland *appl ed for a coalmiuing license over three acres of coal reserve in ,' Block Vf, Kurow district, lately held by W. B. I Caircs, aDd for a grazing license over the remainder of the reserve.— Referred to Banger Hughan to > eport. Bawea.— Mrs B. Cotter wrote in rf gard to the rent of Runs 33Sa. and 430n, Hawea, aud the secretaiy was instructed to reply stating that the bo»rri lnd no power to reduce the rent. Lower Bawea.— John M'Carthy wrote in regard to his surrendering his leases over sections 5, 8,9, and 10, block 111. Maerewhenua Estate. -A report from Rangers Hughan and Atkinson upon the Maerewhenua estate having been considered by the board, tne following leases were dealt with as undpr :— L-ases declared forfeited : H W. Hill, s-ctions 32 and 53; John Currie, section 60 ; Rose M. Grant, section 14 ; Louisa Grant, section 12 ; and J. J. Bennett, section 11. Required to show cause within a fortnight why leases should not be declared forfeited for nou-coinpliance with residence conditions: Angus '"Donnld, section 58; Michnel O'Brien, section 102; A Bell, ju- ., section 82; A. Bell, sen., section 48. Exempt ion granted : Bridget Bell, section 33 (lessee residing on adjoining land) ; Malcalm Francis, section 44 (l-saee a youth residing with his parents). To be notified that pert manent residence must be effected within a month, otherwise forfeiture will take place : D. Park, section 45 ; J. and M. Heron, (section 46 ; and A. Grant, section 21. Alice Philpot (section 5) was allowed two months to effect residence, on account of ill-health.

Mr William Geary, Jan., has been elected to represent the Porlobello subdivision in the Portobello Road Board, Mr Hush KelUs to represent the Broad Bay subdivision, and Messrs J. Macandrew and.L. Edwards to represent the North-East Harbour subdiviiion.

Much amusement; has been occasioned in the Warrnambcol district by the aboriginal women at Framlingbam forming a. cricket club and itim'iDg a challenge to the "Forget-me-nots " to play a match on Saturday. " The Sunbeams " is the name selected by the aboriginal women, and it i* reported that they hare been deroting all their leisure hours — which extend from daylight to dark — in practising, with a. view of lowering the colours of the "Seafoams" and the " Forget-me-nots."
