WAIKOIKOI.

April 26. — Harvesting in this district is fiuished, and threshing is well advanced. The yield of grain is in general decidedly above what Was anticipated earlier in the season. Ur< fortunately, however, a large percentage of it is discoloured. Carting away is now general, and tie roads aye in excellent order, kiome of the settlers are selling outright delivered at the sidings. Others are storing in town, while a considerable numhev are storing in their o. mi barns, being confident of a further rise in prices before next harvest. Pastorax. — Owing to the recent raios pistoral grasses are looking better than they did a couple of months a.o, while the growth amongst stubble now affords a substantial bite. Tin nips in general are an pven ami heavy crop, and I notice on sonifi farms the flock- are alieady turned on. Sheep, geneially speaking, are iv eood condition, and a considerable number of fat lambs have been sent out of the district lately— nearly every farm contributing its quota Bunny. This peEt is again to the fore, and various means are being taken to cope with it. The rut' holders ann several of the farmers are systematically laying pollard poison, and with eood effect, while t apping iv other instances is being" resorted to. The trappers are sending the cavca-es to the freezing works, and are, I understand, "knocking up" bie: cheques. Spirting.—p irting.— Wild ducks are fairly plentiful in the lagoons, while swamp hens are becoming a positive nuisance. I have not, however, heard of any big hue* as yet. Improvements.— Additions, in the shape of ante-ronms, are about to be put 1o the local public haU. The want of room« has bee- a long-felt one, and tbrv will be much apprpri «tpd, especially during the winder months. The work is contracted for, and th* cost, exclusive of carting the material, is over £60.
