RESERVES CONSERVATION SOCIETY.
At a meeting of tbe Reserves Conservation Society the following letter was received from Mr A. S. P_ter3on :—: —
Dunedin, 13th April. A. Bathgate, Esq., lion, secretary Reserves
Conservation Society. Dear Sir,— l have the pleasure to inform you that I was authorised by the under-mentioned membera of the society to purchase in London eight iron seats for presentation through the society to the City Corporation for placing in the city reserves frequented b}' the public. Mr James Tnomson assisted me in selecting the seats — indeed, took tho greater part of the trouble The Shaw, Savill, aud Albion Company carried them frt-ight free to Port Chalmers at the request of Mr J. M. Ritchie. The seats are now set up ready for me at the yard of Messrs Thomson, Bridger, and Co., and ara at your disposal. I hops they may be found in every way suitable and acceptable.
The names of the donors are :— Mr B HallenRtcin, Mr G. G. RuEb-11, Mr J. M. Ritchie. MrW. Weddel (London), Mr J. C. Thomson, Mr A. S. Paterson, Messrs Thomson, Bridger, and Co., Mrs Paterson.— l am, &c, A. S. Paterson.
It was resolved that a vote of thanks be accorded to Mr Paterson and the other donors for their gift. It was decided to recommend the corporation to place four of the seats in the Market Reierve, two in the Triangle, and two in the Octagon behind the Burns statue.
It was also resolved that a start be made i» planting trees on the Anderson's Bay road, i* accordance with tbe Boheme submitted some' time ago to the various council*, provided sufficient gupporb be given by property owners in the district and the public generally.
A steamer has been put -upon the Jordan which makes the journey from Jericho to Tiberius in five hours.
