POLLY TO PETER. ' Dear Pete, — I got your loving letter By the coach on Monday. It's like your cheek. I thought I'd bettet " Think of it till Sunday. At lettar writing you're not4iandy, . Why, Pote, your last was just a dandy I You fill it up with sayings nice. , My word, but you can Hatter ! You call me darling once or twice, But then that doesn't matter ; Your saying so just shows your sense. And I don't take the least offence. You say you'll build a little hut. And you and me will fill it Slap up with love ; that sounds well, but Do you think I'll will it ? Nice and sweet the words you utter — But love won't buy us bread and butter. You say you'll work. I know you will, For you are not a loafer. I trust you there at least, but still A table and a sofa, A chair or two you must procure, And some other bits of furniture. You think I'll keep a housa so neat, So spick and span and tidy. That no friends you'll want to meet From Saturday to Friday l , You love me dancing at the hops— But will you love me frymz chop 3 ? You say I've kept you waiting long-» You say the time is dreary. It does you good to wait, so long As I myself don't weiry. And don't you say, you silly Peter, That waiting make 3 your love complete!. If that's the case of course you see The good that's got by waiting— You love me more, and as for me My thoughts I'm not for stating. Girls may tease and men may laugh, What should you care for silly chaff 2 You .see there'd be a lot to do, I'd want a dandy dress, I'd have to talk to mother, too, We'll have to wait.— P.
