DRAUGHTS TOURNAMENT.
Oajiaru, April 20. The draughts tournament opened last night. The following are the players: —D. Gibson (Manaia), B Murray and J. Anderson (Wanganui) W. Blair (Taranaki), J. Leggett (Wellington), R. Brownlee (Havelock), A. Beck (Timaru), J. Sim F. Butterfield, and J. Lee (Temuka), J. A. Bore' ham, Jake Borehnm, S. Crook, D. Halpin, P Flannery, and T. Macpherson (Oamaru), J. aI Hcott and J. Mulvey (Gore), J. Hannah (Otautau) J. A. Lucas (Dunediu), C. Soaneas iWyndbam). Li'g^ett, Murray, and Anderson were excused from playing till to-day, owing to physical distress consequent on the knocking about they got during the recent gales while travelling. The match North v. South was wci by the So'3th by one point. The North comprised Leggett, Murray, Anderson, Gibson, and Blair, who scored two, and the South Boreham, Scott, Luras, Crook, and Flannnry, who scored three out of two games each played. The following is the positions of the players "in the draughts tournament to-night :—
Messrs Brownlee (Havelock) and Beck (Temuka) left y^i-terday for the north. The tournament will probably finish to-morrow. A private telegram leceived states that the association have by resolution acknowledged Mr D. A. Brodia's championship. Mr Biodie, we learn, has handed over the championship to the association.
