News by the mail steamers from the East includes a statement that the Chinese Government bave ordered four armoured cruisers, two fast cruisers, aad several torpedoes. The boats are all of English type.
The indications are that Li Hu»g Chang is coming into full power again,
A vegetable powder has been discovered which, Y?htu mixed with water, form* an electric battery, one coll of which is said to be strong enough to run half a dozan incandescent lights. With two cells a power of 110 volts is claimed. The powder is claimed to be mide from the roots of a. common plant, the Lame of Tfbich is kept secret, awaiting a patents
