| Christchurch, April 20. The weather was dull, cold, and windy for I the second day of the C. J.C. Autumu meeting. I The attsndance was well up to the average, and £7473 was put through the totalisator, making £16 643 for the meeting. Highlander was in commaud paeuing Cutte's, but as they commenced to go down the back stretch Tally-ho supplanted him, and the pair drew five length < away from Social Peßt. The lait named immediately afterwards lost his position, aud Tally-ho and Highlander were together in front passing the kennels, and with Clarence closing up they raa on round the top turn and into the straight. Tally-ho was the first to give way, and Clareuca takiug command after the last fence had deeu negotiated won by a length and a quarter from Highlander, while Ilex came with a strong run in the straight; and finished half a length away third, with Tally-ho fourth. named, with Led* last. At Cufcts's Belligeivnt was still leading from Tir6, but Lord Rosslyn had run into third position in front of Chaos, and Waiuka was last. Belligerent continued to show the way down the back atretcb, and at the kennels was half a length in front of Tire, with Lord Lotslyn and Chaos next, and Waiaku still last. At the top tarn Tire joined Belligerent, and the pair went into the straight, closely followed by Lord Rosalyn, with Leda and Waiuku moving up fast. Below the distance Belligerent and Chaos retired, and Waiuku, taking command, went on and won by a length and a-half from Leda, who came with a strong run in the last 100 yards, and Befeated Tir6 by a neck for second position, with Belligerent some distance away fourth, Firefly fifth, Cbaos sixth, »nd Lord Rosslyn last. There was a very large attendance of the public, Lawrence, Tapanui, Roxburgh, and the intervening districts baing very strongly represented. The racing all through was good, the fields in nearly every instance being large, aud the totalisator investments wore fairly brisk, the total for the day Toeing £1092. Singular to say the meeting passed off without a single protest being lodged, neither was there any squabbling or unpleasantness of any kind during the prdgress of the meeting, which is regarded on all hands as one of the most successful yet held by the club. The various offioia'ts were always to be found at their respective posts, and were most attentive aud obliging in the performance of their duties. On entering the straight the latter stumbled and unseated her rider. The Riverton Racing Club's annu»l race and steeplechase meeting, held on Easter Monday, proved one of the most successful meetings ever held in the district. The weather was beautiful, the attendance a record one, there were goad fields, and the racing was especially good and interesting. The big steeplechase, aftor a ding-dong half-mile finish between Outram, Peter Simple, Nimblefoot, and Aparima, resulted in a de&d heat between, Peter Simple and Nimblefoot. Speculation was brisk, about £2300 passing through the tohalisator. Result* :—: — Handicap Hurdles.
