Blackstone Hill Affairs, TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,— There appeared in your issue of the 15th inst. a letter from Blackstone Hill giving an account of the social in honour of our late postmistress Miss S. Inder, which is not correct, and is very misleadiug. The writer says: "'Admission was by invitation." This is not true ; there was no invitation given to anyone, but admission wes free to all. Tfien he goes on to say that one gentlenuu wa? not satisfied with landing the recipient, but (xrreued bis talents in abusing the appointee who succeeds. This is not true. What the gentleman in question said was that he for one was sorry the pos>t office was going where it was. Theu a petition wjs taken round for the signatures of those who wished Miss Falconer to be appointed postmistress and, strauge to say, eveiyone signed it, with the exception of a few — a very small few. The petition was taken roundnot " hawked " by a parson whom evetyotie could trust. When the people found that their wishes were bern; ignored by the powers that be there was no "boiling over," neither was there any " roaring and cackling." No. No one throw his "last" about, neither did our local storekeeper desert his store. They took it more coolly than the writer of xhs letter iv question would have done undur the circumstances. — I am, &c, BlackbLone Hill, April 19. Truth. A man named Henry Scott. 61 ;;ears of sge, was received into the Dunedin Hospital on Tuesday, from "Vlertou, with a wound in the thigh. It appears that with his two sons he was engaged killing a wild boar, and while ho wa<? kneeling on the animal to keep it down, and preparatory to sticking it, the boar suddenly thrust its head forward, and its tusk entered the mau's thigh, inflicting a, nasty wound, and cue that might have been serious had it been closer to tha attery. As it is no danger is apprehended.
