Notes from Wakatipu.

(From Our Own Cokresponoent.)

Arrowtown, April 10. — The last returns from ■the Macetown reefs show a steady, if alight, improvement upon recent yields, and there rs hope, so far as the Glenrock mice is concerned, that the improvement is the foreshadowing of a permanent run of prosperity. However, it is still too early in the day to spjak with absolute confidence of the ultimate result of present developments. As it is, a return of about lOdwt per to-.i would, if plenty stone were made availably, leave a hnuc'soine surplus over and above working expenses. The clean up for the last month from this liiine was 1450z ■of smelted gold from. 250 tous of quaitz. In the Westralia Company's mine a great femotfnt of prospecting work has been done, which not proving successful so far has retarded the output of " oake." which foi last month was 730z of smelted gold from 208 tons crushed, showing «n encouraging advance upon late yields. The new discovery at the .Roaring Meg is hopefully spoken of, and prospecting is being pushed ahe^d with all possible apeed. The locality may be recommended to intendingproppectorsasalikely field for reefs. Many reports of quartz specimens thickly studded with gold which were said to have been found in the bed of the Roaring Meg have from time to time been circulated, and supposing them to be correct, thiß would be the besv possible indication of the existence of lodes in the vicinity. Good news continues to come to hand from the Achilles mine, Bullendale. The stone now coming out of thp mine is fully up to the average quality, and with a - replenished water supply there is likely to be an improvement even upon last c»ke. Opening works are being kept well ahead, and before long anew level will be opened, affording additional facilities for stoping. So far as the most advanced exploitations in the mine have penetrated, they everywhlre disclose stone in block of a highly promising nature. Mr Henry DunkerTias beeu prospecting a slip in the left hand branch of Skippers Greek for a considerable time past for a co-operative party. Tt ife now feared that the undertaking will prove too much for those interested in the spec, aud Work will very likely be hung up for a time. The Alpine Quartz-mininp; Companj-, Skippers Point, has applied for an additional licensed holding of 30 acres in Jennings'a Gully. Messrs Lynch Bros, are about making a start "With their quartz claim at Mount Aiuuni.
