Settlers in Arrears.

TO THE EDITOE. Sir, — If it be true that there a^e 1450 selectors ia Wellington district in arrears in 'their payments, and tome 800 who have not paid at

all, as reported recently, the matter requires attention. What about other districts ? Returns j should be demanded and a stop put to further advances. Here, in the face of a most propitious season, we read the above results. Had ib been a bad season — one shudders ! With the country committed to a liability of four millions on behalf of the Bank of New Zealand, according to Mr R, B. Taylor, M.H.R , the outlook is none too rosy. The Acting Premier will havo his work cut out to keop his selectors up to the mark, aud ho t-hould be made to do it, and risk to further advances till further developments ; and certainly the other one and a-half million must not be borrowed under any circumstances. L?t the honest farmer live, bub shunt the scallywags who never "meant or mean to pay, but who exhaust the land for three or four years and then forfeit. To permit this is criminal. — I am, &c, April 12. Lynx.
