Two stacks, containing about 600 bushels of wheat, valued at £150, the property of Mr John Fleming Douglas, Waihao Downs, were burned on Saturday, 10th. The stacks were not insured, and the cause of the fire is unknown. A house at Port Moeraki, containing 13 rooms mud known as the Red Houie, was burned to the ground a little before midnight on Monday. The house, which belonged to the Government, was a very old one, and had been in the occupation of Mrs Munro for a number of years. Nothing was saved. It is not known if there was any insurance. M'Gregor was one of grots injustice, and that it has excited feelings of surprise and indignation throughout the district.
