RUNNING AMUCK.
The Malay, after having lost all by gambling tbat he possesses, and being reduced to a state of desperation, loosens a certain lock of hair, which indicates war and destruction to all whom the raving games'.er meets. He intoxicates himself with opium, and, working himself into a state of "frenzy, biteg or kills everyone who comes in his way. As soon as this lock is seen flowing, it is lawful to fire at the person and destroy him as fast as possible. Pope, making use of the phrase, says, " Satire's my weapon, but I'm too discreet to run amuck and tilt at all I meet."
