Inquirer, Milton — The interesting position you send is clearly a draw. There are many variations. If Black queens the pawn AVhite simply takes it, and the game is drawn The Xt alone cannot mate. We give the position in the Forsyth notation :— B, 8, 8, 2kts, 2 P 5, 2K 5, p,l Xt 5, 1 k 6; Black to play. Can he win? If White moved first he could play 1 K>-R 1 ; if X x Xt 2, 2 X- B 2, Kt-KS or R 5 ; 3 P-B 5. Xt x P ; 4 K-B 1, and the black king cannot get out of the corner, for the white king cannot be forced away from B 1 and B 2.
