EDUCATION BOARD ELECTION.

A special meeting of the Education Board wat held yesterday afternoon for the purpose of counting the votes and declaring the remit of the election of three members of the board. There were present — Messrs Cohen (chairman), Gallaway, Clark, M'Kerrow, J. F. M. Fraser, and the Hon. J. MacGregor. The voting papers haying been counted the result was the election of Messrs MacGregor, J. F. M. Fraser, and Wm. Snow, and was declared accordingly. The voting was as follows .— J. Henderson 19 There are 205 committees in the Otago education district, and about the usual number (192) voted in the recent election.

There are now 263 boys on the Wellington College roll. From Grej mouth last week 3389 tons of coal, 98,677 ft timber, and 1052 sleepers were exported. At Auckland last week, fresh mullet were being told &t the rate of four for 6d, delivered at the door. An open air demonstration was held at Westport on Saturday in aid of the Indian famine relief fund. Notwithstanding a heavy thunder storm and a. downpour of rain the sum of £17 was collected. The poll on the proposal to borrow £10,000 to establish a corporation yard in Christchurch resulted in only 2*7 votes for and 181 against out of 4139 votes on the roll. The piopotal me declared lost.
