DRUIDISM. DISTRICT GRAND LODGE FOR OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND.

The ceremony of presenting to the newlyformed District Grand Lodge for Otsgo and Southland the charter for an independent lodge took place in the Rafcfcray street Hall on Thursday afternoon at 2.30, and was followed by the installation of the necessary offioers. These important functions were performed by the G.P. (Bro. Thomas Clement) | and the G.S. (Bro. J. J. B return), who arrived in Dunedin on Wednesday, haying come from Melbourne commissioned by the board of directors, as representing the Grand Lodge of Victoria (the parent institution), specially to set the new body on foot. The prooeedingH were commenced by voting P.D.P. Bro. A. Morrison, M.H.R. for CavershAm, to the chair temporarily. There were also present:— Representative* : Royal Oak, Bro. A. Morrison ; Otago, Bro. W. Evans; Linden, Bro. J. Roberts, jun. ; Enterprise, Bros. Oaborne and Wardrop ; West Harbour, Bro. D. Larnaoh | Good Intent, Bro. Wright ; Endeavour, Bro. Menzies ; Gore, Bro. Knight ; InvercargiU, Bro. Humphreys; Rose of Palmerston, Bro. Hopkins. Visitors: P.D.P. Bros. Jackson (Enterprise), Harneiss (No. 44), J. S. Keith (Timaru), Briggs - (Royal Oak), Callon and Butler (West Harbour), Easton (Royal Oak), Shelton (Otago) ; D.P. Bros. W. Stronach (No. 19 district), Sincook (Endeavonr, Oamaru), Kinnaird and Honeybone (All Nations), and Heatley (Gisborne) ; P.A. Bro. Bishop (Pioneer, I Chriatchurch). i The Grand Lodge officers having been reoeived j with fall Druidic honours, the G.P. congratu- : lated the representatives assembled on the j position which the order had attained in Otago and Southland, and on having gained their I charter for an independent lodge. He hoped I that they would start on what would prove to bo a successful career, and that the lodges under their jurisdiction would not only inorease, i but enjoy a timo of prosperity. ThoG.S., after i reading the charter, tendered his congratulation g j to the brethren, and assured them that; the /hoard of directors wiahed the new D.G.L. nothing bat a career cf unbroken success. The voting for officers was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows : — D.G.P., Bro. A. Morrison, M.H.R. (without opposition) ; vice-president — there were nominated P.A. Bro. Osborne and P.D.P. Bro. Jackson, both of Enterprise, and the voting was : Osborne 8, Jackson 3. For secretary (the remuneration having been fixed at £15) there were nominated P.D.P. Bro. Shelton and P.A. Bro. Larnach, and the voting was : Shelton 7, Larnaoh 4. For treasurer (the remuneration being fixed at one guinea) P.A. Bro. Evans waß elected without opposition. For guardians there were nominated P.D.P. Bro. Menzies and P.A. Bro. Roberts, and the voting waiti t Menzies 8, Roberts 3. Trustee*, P.D.P. Bro. Harneiss, P.A. Bro. Wright, and Bro. W. Wardrop. It was decided to postpone the appointment of three auditors. The G.P., assisted by the G.S. and P.D.P. Harneiss, then installed the various offioers into their chairs, and the D.G. officers returned thanks for tha honour done to them. Letters of congratulation were received from the North Island and the Canterbury District Grand Lodges,

' by the representatives that the visit of tho commissioners to Dunedin would be highly enjoyable. The G.P. and the G.S. suitably replied. Rasolved— " That the names of G.V P Bro I. Isaacs, P.D.G.P. Bro. J. Mackay, and Bro. M. Cohen be especially recorded on the minutes for their past services in assisting to obtain tha formation of a District Grand Lodge." Resolved— " That the hearty thanks of the representatives be given to P.D.P. Bro.-Keitb. for his presence, and for representing the Canterbury District Grand Lodge." — Bro. Keith replied in an able speech, and The minutes having been read and endorsed, the D.G.P. declared the meeting closed. BANQUET. A social banquet was held in the Shamrock Hotel on the 24th to celebrate the inauguration of the District Grand Lodge. The D.G.P., J Bro. A. Morrison, M.H.R , occupied -the chair, i and was supported on his right by the GP. (Bro. T. Clement), P.D.P. Bro. J. S. Keifcb, and Mr W. Reid (of the Independent Order of Oddfellows), and on his left by the G.S. (Bro. J. J. Brenau) and Bro. M. Cohen. After an hour had been spent in discussing several tables loaded with the choice edibles provided by Host Tilburn, the toast list was taken up. Tho proceedings were closed at 11.30 p vi. with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne."

PORT CHALMERS.

Majority for City Guards, 8 points. Dunbdin Rifle Club. It was intended to fire a match Past v. Present members of the Dunedin Rifle Club on S&turday Afternoon, but owing to the past members being unable to muster their team it was decided to go on with a practice match. Sides were chosen by Mr G. C. Proudfoct and Mr J. Hardie. Mr Hardies side won by 29 points. The weather was beautifully fine, with a variable, light, and tricky right-front wind. Ranges : 200, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each. The - following were the highest scores :—
