A settler while on his way from Waipu to Marsden Point, Auckland, at 2 a.m. on Saturday noticed rockets set off in quick tucoeision at sea, and continuing for tome time, in the direction of the Hen and Chickens. The Hyde correspondent of the Naaeoy paper states that a rather amusing incident occurred there on the occasion of the last court sitting. A Dunedin solicitor, after hurriedly finishing * case which he was conducting, found himselE with too little time to walk to the itation. 8a without a "by your leave " he was cm te the first horse tied to the court fence, and away before the owner could say " with pleasure." The lawyer was followed helter skelter down the street by the owner, with the result that the former was presently overtaken, and hot words followed from the indignant owner with a prospect, it was whispered a few days ago, ofi au action at law.
