OPPOSITION IN THE SENATE. Washington, January 27. A section of thu members of the Senate are blocking r.he ratification of the AngloAmerican Arbitration Treaty; Many amendments have already been introduced, and Senator Long is seeking to incorporate the principle of the Monroe doctrine. The American Board of Trade urgo the ratification of the treaty. A large meeting of leading cifc\z<wiß at Washington passed resolutions hailing the Anglo-American Treaty with joy and patriotic pride. January 30. Senator Sherman is confident that the Senate will approve the Anglo-American Arbitration Treaty. * January 31. The Foreign Committee of the Senate recommend the ratification of thq Arbitration Treaty, with amendments, omitting King Oscar as umpire, and excluding, except by special agreement, questions s«ff eating foreign and domestic policy or relations of either country with other Powers. Attorney-general Oluey (United States) and Sir J. Pauncefote (England) have signed the Convention agreeing to the appointment of a commission to demarcate the Alaskan boundary.
