THE AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON. Wellington, February 1.
Both the warships Katootnba and Ringarooma had rough passages from Hobart. From Wednesday until Friday they encountered a heavy northerly gtle with high seas, and on Saturday they met the full force of the recent southerly gale, during a portion of which only one knot per hour was recorded. On Saturday afternoon they sought shelter in Port Hardy, resuming their voyage early yegterdsy. H.M S. Orlando is expected late to-night or to-morrow morning, and it is understood the fleet will leave for Akaroa on Saturday. After a brief stay there the admiral visits Dunedin in H.M.S. Wallaroo, the Orlando in the meantime going to Lyttelton. Tbe Riogarooma goes to Sydney, where she will be replaced by the Mildura. The Katoomba is due in Auckland on the 22nd inst. Thence she proceeds to Sydney, and on her arrival will act as reserve guard«hip, the Tauranga relieving her in Australian waters.
